Hinwick Hall College closure completion update
Livability’s Hinwick Hall College, based in Wellingborough, Northants, officially closed on 23rd July 2014 after completing the education year as planned.
Like several charities who provide special needs further education colleges Livability has been challenged by the effects of the cuts in public spending and falling student income at Hinwick, set against a background of rising costs. As a consequence the charity’s Board of Trustees had announced with great sadness the closure decision in November 2013.
During its last year Hinwick Hall College supported 46 students with a variety of complex physical and learning disabilities.
Hinwick Hall staff worked hard to help all students make a successful transition from the college, whether they were completing their education studies or needed to identify other opportunities for the future with their local commissioners. We are pleased that as a result all students have now found new placements that meet their needs and wishes.
Livability is proud of the achievements of its Hinwick Hall students over the years and delighted to have been able to support the development of so many inspiring young adults and help them develop new skills and become more independent.
The Hinwick Hall management and staff showed professionalism and dedication under difficult circumstances and Livability would like to thank them for their hard work.
Livability would also like to thank the many volunteers and supporters whose generosity has over the years helped make Hinwick Hall College a very special place.
Over the past few months, Livability has been actively marketing the Hinwick Hall site and it will continue to do so until a sale is achieved. Livability will reinvest these proceeds to support the services it provides to disabled people all over the UK.
The charity will continue to offer education services at its Nash College, Kent, and Victoria Education Centre, Dorset, and is planning to offer more community based learning opportunities from its other service bases over the next three years.
