Your donations make a huge difference

Make this Christmas one to remember at Livability York House - a care home for disabled adults

You could help to buy a Christmas gift to put under the tree. This will be particularly important for people that live at the home who are not able to visit family over Christmas.

This could help us buy large format, accessible board games, jigsaws and packs of cards that would enable our residents to spend precious time together and build friendships.

It’s a tight squeeze getting everyone around a television in their wheelchairs and ensuring they can all see the screen. It would be wonderful to buy a projector so everyone can watch Christmas movies together.

Help us go the extra mile for disabled people this Christmas

Open the doors to Livability York House this Christmas and you will find a warm and welcoming home for 20 disabled adults.

The fairy lights will be twinkling and the Christmas tree decorated. The windows will be sprayed with snow and cards from family, friends and members of the community will decorate our residents’ lounge. Every bedroom door will have a Christmas wreath hand made by them.

There will be a gift for everyone to open under the tree together. We need your help to make it happen.

Staff have helped me with a lot with things I'm not able to do

Ashaq has Parkinsonia syndrome and needs a great deal of physical support. When he arrived at York House he was in immense pain. It was a challenging situation for both staff and residents, but the care home worked with Ashaq to get a diagnosis and treatment.

He’s now much happier, able to make friends.  ‘I was very angry at why I couldn’t do anything. Now I can get dressed, look nice and get up into my chair. I love my music and watching birds and I get to enjoy all this again. Staff are very good at helping me achieve what I require and they have helped me a lot with things I’m not able to do.”

Support my independence this Christmas

Suzanne has spina bifida and every week, she likes to visit her friends in town in her wheelchair on the Access bus. She’s fiercely independent and care home staff do all they can to ensure she can maintain her connections outside her home.

This Christmas, she’ll need support to go shopping for presents, and meet her friends in the local café.

Less isolation and more friendship...

I work at Livability Your House in Ossett - a residential care home for 20 disabled people near Leeds. Many of the people who reside here have diverse needs and require support with everyday living, from eating and getting dressed, to going out to meet friends.

Christmas is such a special time. Together, we can make Livability York House an extra special place to be. Through fun and festive activities, you can help disabled people be less isolated by making friends and connecting with their community.
