Livability Lifestyle Choices Service Closure Announcement
Livability has been proud to deliver our Lifestyle Choices service in the Devon and Cornwall area. For over nine years, the service has provided a range of opportunities for disabled people to increase confidence and gain back independence in the community.
Following a full and comprehensive review of the future development of the service with Cornwall and Plymouth County Councils, and with recent changes to the contracting and procurement arrangements for this work, Livability is announcing a decision to close the Lifestyle Choices service in the area. The service will close on 31 August 2015.
Livability is working with the local authority, service users and other agencies to identity new providers for each service user. The charity will ensure that robust transition plans and handover process are in place, as well as supporting staff affected by the decision.
Karen Sutton, Service Manager for Livability Lifestyle Choices in Cornwall said: ‘We are proud to be concluding our service knowing that we have delivered a strong track record of care in the community. We know that there is strong capacity and expertise within the local authority to continue the excellent provision that service users have come to expect.’
During it’s time of service, Livability Lifestyle Choices has supported 184 people, providing access to a variety of recreation and development opportunities. These have included swimming , computer classes, bowls, cinema and fitness classes and walks, pub meals, sailing, canoeing, photography, voluntary work, arts and crafts, theatre, gardening, bus training, disco, disabled football and stroke awareness club.
Lindsay Taylor, Head of Finance Support for Livability said: ‘Livability is continually assessing our capacity to deliver services that bring a broad, integrated and effective provision with high quality outcomes in the life of a community. As far as possible, we work to join and connect our services, so that we can provide a stronger portfolio to benefit the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people in the areas we work.
‘Alongside this commitment, our service offering must also be assessed in terms of its ongoing affordability. As the only service we have running in the area – and with changes to the contractual arrangements for this work, we have taken the decision to discontinue this service.’
Livability thanks the staff and supporters in the local community who have contributed so much to the work of Livability Lifestyle Choices South West.
