More than just glass – the human value of upgrading windows and doors

It’s sometimes easy to forget how much windows and doors can do. They not only keep a building warm by using less energy, they also turn a house into a home, providing comfort for the people that live there.

Norwich-based Anglian Charity Committee, part of Anglian Home Improvements, know all too well the value of such improvements and have undertaken two major projects at two of Livability’s care homes.

Anglian expressed their interest to work with Livability after an event at Livability John Grooms Court – a residential care home for disabled people – close to their offices in Norwich.

Keen to get involved with the local home, Anglian ventured into its first project with Livability in 2011. The first floor of John Grooms Court was under renovation and Anglian was responsible for the balcony area, which would offer the residents more space and flexibility.

After a matter of weeks, John Grooms Court had a new conservatory installed which offered a light-filled, relaxing environment for house meetings and entertaining visitors.

Anglian’s charity committee were so passionate about the work they had completed with John Grooms Court, they expressed an interest to work with Livability again. Anglian embarked on a second project with Livability just three years later.

Impressed and moved by the staff at Livability Treetops – a residential care home in Colchester – Anglian offered to replace all the windows and doors with energy efficient double- and triple-glazed windows and doors.

“Treetops Manager Janet Bilton was very impressed”, said Livability’s Major Donor and Corporate Manager Anna-Maria Mullen. “They worked to schedule and the staff at Treetops were overwhelmed by the care and empathy the window and door installers showed to residents.”

Worth an astounding £100,000, the upgraded windows and doors project will save energy in the future, ensure that residents are comfortable and their surroundings warm and draught-free now and for many years to come.

Anglian has made a positive impact to both residents and staff at Livability through its projects and continuing to explore potential projects in the future that would have long-lasting benefits to the people Livability serves.

The Charity committee at Anglian Home Improvements was recognised for its work with Livability by HRH The Princess Royal at a recent award ceremony. Read about their achievement here.
