Victoria Education Centre shortlisted for prestigious music awards
Victoria Education Centre – Livability’s school for disabled young people based in Poole – has been shortlisted for two awards in the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence 2017.
The two categories are the Best School Music Department Award and Musicians’ Union Inspiration Award. Victoria Education Centre offers specialised, high quality care and therapy for young disabled people from 3-19 years old. All students have physical disabilities or complex medical conditions and many have additional needs including communication difficulties, learning difficulties and sensory impairments.
Simon Brown, Headteacher of Victoria Education Centre commented:
“I am delighted that the school has been shortlisted for these music awards. These are fantastic achievements and recognition of the amazing work that the Music department does to inspire, engage, motivate and make music accessible to students. I am extremely proud of the amazing work & commitment from all our staff within the school.”
Created to celebrate excellence in music and performing arts education, the awards will be presented in 13 categories, covering new products and resources as well as hubs, music departments and individual contributions to the sector.
“This year’s awards have seen a wide range of extremely strong nominations, highlighting some of the superb work being done by music educators across the UK,” said Alex Stevens, editor of Music Teacher magazine and chair of the awards judging panel. “We are delighted to reveal our shortlist and look forward to celebrating the best of the music education sector in February.”
The winners of the categories will be announced on 9th February 2017 in a gala ceremony at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel in Mayfair. This black-tie event will feature a champagne reception, a three-course meal plus wine, and performances from a Yamaha scholar and Prohibition Blues and Jazz Trio The Rumblestrutters.
Belinda Ellicott, Dance Teacher and Music Lead at Victoria, was also thrilled with the school being nominated:
“The students are very excited that their school has been shortlisted for such prestigious awards as it is their dedication, hard work and creativity that is the driving force behind everything that is achieved every day at VEC.
