York House’s new ebay store
Residents and staff at York House, a centre that cares for 20 people with a variety of disabilities based in Ossett, West Yorkshire, have started their own ebay account to help finance a new independent living space in their care home.
York House, run by Livability, is now able to sell goods online, such as clothing, that are generously donated by the public and use the proceeds to create a new kitchen-dining space for residents that will help them more independently.
Anyone interested in supporting York House and wanting to view some of the items they are offering on ebay can do so by clicking on the advanced search on the ebay front page , then click the ”by seller” option and then enter ”weareyorkhouse” in the seller ID box or click here to access the page directly.
People wanting to donate goods can contact York House on 01924 271403 or at York House, New Street, Ossett, West Yorkshire, WF5 8BW.
The ingenuous idea was started by York House administrator Rebecca Freeman who is so committed to the residents that she worked on setting up the account during her own free time.
Rebecca said: ”Using ebay is a great way for us to reach as many potential buyers as possible. Our residents are also very involved in the process and really enjoy this new challenge. We hope that people will want to support our new initiative by either donating goods or purchasing our items online”.
Rebecca has also set up a service for staff and their friends where she offers to sell any unwanted items they might have online and takes care of all the formalities in exchange for a share of the profit going to York House.
